How It Works
Q:What is AI Image Upscaling?
AI image upscaling is the process of increasing an image's resolution using artificial intelligence. Instead of simply stretching pixels (which creates blur), our AI model — Real-ESRGAN — analyzes the content of your image and intelligently generates new, realistic pixels to fill in the missing detail. The result is a sharper, higher-resolution image that looks like it was captured at a higher resolution from the start.
Q:How long does processing take?
Processing typically takes 3–7 minutes depending on image size, server load, and queue position. Our AI runs on dedicated GPU hardware, but because we process images sequentially to maintain quality, there may be a short wait during peak times. You'll see a real-time progress indicator while your image is being processed.
Q:What are the three output versions?
Every image produces three versions: (1) 4K Basic — standard Real-ESRGAN upscaling at 4× resolution with face enhancement, available free. (2) Pro Sharp — same 4K upscaling with an additional sharpening filter for enhanced edge definition, ideal for architecture and product photos. (3) 2K Balanced — 2× upscaling with natural tone preservation, ideal for portraits where a softer, more natural look is preferred.
Q:What does 'face enhancement' mean?
When our system detects faces in your image, it automatically applies GFPGAN (Generative Facial Prior GAN) — a specialized AI model trained specifically on human faces. This second-pass processing recovers fine facial details like eyes, skin texture, hair, and subtle expressions that standard upscaling alone cannot restore.
Q:Can AI upscaling fix a blurry photo?
AI upscaling significantly improves images that are blurry due to low resolution — meaning the photo is sharp but simply doesn't have enough pixels. If a photo is blurry due to camera motion, out-of-focus shooting, or severe camera shake, results will be more limited. The AI works best when the original image is sharp but small.
Supported Formats & Limits
Q:Which file formats are supported?
We currently support JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WebP formats. For best upscaling results, we recommend PNG as it's a lossless format that preserves all original pixel data. Heavily compressed JPEGs may show compression artifacts in the output, so the higher the source quality, the better the result.
Q:Is there a maximum file size?
Yes, the maximum file size is 50MB per image. For most photos and images, this is more than sufficient. If your image exceeds 50MB, try exporting it at slightly lower quality (for JPEG) or cropping it before uploading.
Q:What resolution can I upscale to?
The 4K Basic and Pro Sharp versions upscale your image by 4× in each dimension, so a 500×500px image becomes 2000×2000px (4 megapixels). The 2K Balanced version upscales by 2×. There is no fixed maximum output resolution — the output size depends on your input image.
Q:Can I upscale multiple images at once?
Currently, our service processes one image per session to ensure quality and fair access for all users. After your current image is processed, you can immediately start processing another image.
Pricing & Payment
Q:Is the service really free?
Yes — the 4K Basic version is completely free with no account required. We sustain our free service through non-intrusive advertising via Google AdSense. Premium versions (Pro Sharp and 2K Balanced) are available for a small one-time fee of $2 per image, which helps cover our GPU infrastructure costs.
Q:How does the $2 premium unlock work?
After your image is processed, you'll see the 4K Basic download available for free. To unlock the Pro Sharp and 2K Balanced versions, simply click the payment button and complete a $2 payment through PayPal. Once payment is confirmed, both premium download buttons unlock immediately.
Q:What payment methods are accepted?
Payments are processed through PayPal, which accepts PayPal account balance, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), and debit cards. You do not need a PayPal account to pay by card.
Q:What is your refund policy?
Due to the immediate, digital nature of our service, we generally cannot offer refunds once processing has completed and results have been delivered. If you experience a technical issue where payment was collected but premium results were not delivered, please contact us within 48 hours and we will resolve the issue promptly.
Privacy & Security
Q:Is it safe to upload my private photos?
Yes. Your images are transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection and stored in a secure cloud environment during processing. All images are automatically deleted within 24 hours. We never share your images with third parties or use them to train AI models. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Q:Do you store my images permanently?
No. All uploaded images and processed results are automatically deleted within 24 hours of upload. We do not maintain any permanent archive of user images. Once your download link expires, the files are permanently removed.
Q:Do I need to create an account?
No account is required. You can use the full upscaling service — including the free 4K Basic version — without registering or providing any personal information. An anonymous session ID is used solely to track the progress of your current processing job.
Q:How do you handle GDPR compliance for European users?
We collect minimal data and process it in accordance with GDPR principles. We do not process personal data without a legal basis, we respect your right to erasure (your images are deleted automatically), and we only use your data for the specific purpose of processing your upscaling request. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
Troubleshooting
Q:My image is stuck processing — what should I do?
Processing typically completes within 3–7 minutes. If your image has been processing for more than 15 minutes, it may have encountered an issue. Try refreshing the page and uploading your image again. If the problem persists, try reducing the file size or converting to a different format before uploading.
Q:The results don't look as good as I expected — why?
AI upscaling works best on images that are sharp but low-resolution. If your source image has heavy JPEG compression, severe camera shake blur, or is very dark or noisy, results may be less dramatic. Try the Pro Sharp version for images with fine details, or the Balanced version for portraits. Starting with the highest-quality source available always produces the best results.
Q:The download button isn't appearing after processing — what's wrong?
Make sure you don't have a browser extension blocking JavaScript or network requests. Try disabling any ad blockers or privacy extensions temporarily. If the issue persists, try a different browser or check your internet connection. Processing results are available for 24 hours after completion.
